F: Since the Thirties the use of statistical methode of analysis and representation, in industry, commerce and the social and natural sciences had been growing rapidly. By the early fifties statistical representation was becoming a relatively common feature of most people's experience, and statistics was moving into the aainstream of the university mathematics curriculum.
